August 2019 ISI WSC 2019 newsletter – special edition From the ISI President We will soon be in the midst of all the energy, vibrancy and global reach of another ISI World Statistics Congress - the 62nd ISI WSC in the beautiful centre of Kuala Lumpur. After extensive and diverse pre-congress events of satellite conferences, symposia and short courses, over 1600 speakers will discuss ideas, developments and best practice. More>> Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception All WSC participants are invited to join the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception of the ISI WSC 2019, which will be held 18 th August at the Plenary Hall in KLCC. The Welcome Reception will be held following the Opening Ceremony at Exhibition Hall 4 and 5, KLCC. Scientific Programme A rich 5-day scientific programme of the WSC includes 326 sessions with in total 1,487 speakers, 128 Discussants and 25 panellists. In addition, there are diverse Lunch Time Discussion Groups (LTDGs), which are a great opportunity for group discussions on a topic of mutual interest in a relaxed informal environment. There are no fees associated for joining an LTDG. Registrations are possible via ISI WSC 2019 mobile apps in the App Store and Google Play. Participants will have time to get their own lunch from 12:30 to 12:50 and the group sessions will be from 12:50 - 13:45. More>> ISI General Assembly 2019 ISI Members attending the WSC are cordially invited to attend the ISI General Assembly (GA) scheduled for Thursday 22nd August, from 17.15-19.15. The GA agenda can be viewed here. Women in Stat Networking Breakfast Women in Stat Networking Breakfast organized by the ISI Committee on Women in Statistics will take place on Tuesday, 20th August, 7:30-8:50 hrs, at Ten-On-Call in KLCC. This reception is a fun, social gathering during the busy WSC for ISI members to relax and mingle! More>> ISI’s President’s Invited Keynote Lecture ISI WSC 2019 President’s Invited Speaker is Jessica Utts, Professor Emerita at the Department of Statistics, University of California. Professor Utts will deliver the President’s Invited Keynote Lecture on Enhancing Data Science Ethics through Statistical Education and Practice. More>> ISI Author Workshop Getting Your Paper Published This free workshop is for all future journal authors interested in learning how to publish their next paper, and will be especially valuable for young statisticians at the beginning of their careers, as well as those who have not yet published an article. The Workshop will take plac on 20th August, 16.00-17.40. More>> ISLP Open Meeting ISLP warmly welcomes everyone to the annual ISLP Open Meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, 21st August, 12.40 - 13.40 hrs, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, MR 407, Level 4. The ISI & Associations Booth in the Exhibition Area Come visit us at the ISI booth in island no. 1031 in the Exhibition Hall! Olivia van Dijck-Timbol from the ISI Office will be there to answer all your questions about ISI and Associations as well as different types of ISI memberships and services. ISI WSC 2021 Booth Our second booth, the ISI WSC 2021 booth will be located back to back with the ISI booth in island no. 1031 of the exhibition area. Come and visit us there to learn about the venue of the 63rd ISI WSC in The Hague, The Netherlands. Julie Spoor of The Hague Tourist Office will be happy to give you information about The Hague city and the venue of the next WSC. At the booth you can also make a selfie literally as a painting of a famous Dutch master! More>> Closing Ceremony and Gala Dinner The Closing Ceremony will be held on 23rd August at the Plenary Hall, KLCC. During this ceremony, ISI will announce the host country for the 63rd ISI WSC, which will take place in 2021.On the same evening, there will be a Gala Dinner at the Grand Ballroom and Banquet Hall in KLCC. Participants will be able to enjoy their dinner while being entertained by the performances lined up for the night. More>> From the ISI Director: See you in Kuala Lumpur!
